Sep 2023:
I was planning on streaming Starfield when it released, but I ran into a bunch of problems
getting my mic audio setup correctly. I just switched to the Rode ProCaster II from the GoXLR and the setup is way different. My mic sounds excellent in my headphones, but while making recordings, testing what
the stream would look like before actually going live, the recorded mic sounded so low. I ended up doing a lot of trial and error, increasing the gain, increasing the Windows mic settings, changing the noise gate
and other settings.
I think my mic is still pretty low, but I got tired of messing with it and started playing Starfield without streaming. The game is pretty fun, but there is a lot of slow parts, I find myself yawning a lot and some
parts of the game makes me really sleepy. It would be a good streaming game because there is plenty of time to talk to chat, unlike a fast paced game like COD multiplayer. If I can get my mic sounded decent, I may
end up streaming it. I have also been playing Starfield a lot on my ASUS ROG Ally. I had to download an updated video card driver straight from the Ally website, for some reason it's not in Windows update. But, after
updating to the driver that came out on August 31, and lowering the graphic settings to LOW on everything, the game plays relatively smoothly. I've been enjoying it for the most part. Space battles suck, but ground
battles are fun.
Aug 2023:
I ended up releasing a short version of the video I made of me taste-testing Dr. Disrespect's Black Steel Bourbon. I only put it up on Tiktok. I probably won't post it anywhere else because the lighting is poop and the sound isn't great. I got a desktop mic stand, for my next video so that I can use one of my better mics. I used the Zoom H6 recorder to get the sound I did use, it was better than the camera mics and my cell phone's mic, but still wasn't that great. Hopefully, next time I can get the lighting right, get the sound right, and focus my camera on me instead of the subject next to me. Live and learn, I guess.
I have been working on my setup for most of August.
I had filmed a few things in August, such as a video of me tasting Dr. Disrespect's Black Steel Bourbon. Unfortunately, I was filming it myself, and the camera stayed focused on a stationary
bottle I had in front and off to the side of myself, so I'm blurry in the video and decided not to upload it.
I also filmed myself unboxing a new Sony A6700 camera, I haven't edited the footage (nor have I looked at it to see if it's even any good, I could have had the the same focus issue as I did above.
I took some photos of myself with different color backdrops, different clothes, different hats to use as thumbnails.
I made a few thumbnails for the release of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre game, I had planned on live streaming it, but my day job became really busy and I didn't have time to even play the game. I plan on
streaming Starfield, when it comes out next month, I already have a couple of days off of work to try and stream that at least Thursday through Sunday ( September 7th - 10th ). Fingers crossed.
I've also been making updates to my website, trying to get ready for a relaunch.
July 2023:
I purchased a bunch of goodies in July. I bought two new microphones, the Electro-Voice RE20 in
black and the Sennheiser MKH416-P 48 U3 Short Shotgun Mic, and some new high-end mic cables. I also ordered the RØDECaster Pro II. I bought a new camera, the Sony A6700.
I had the Sony A6700 plugged in and was setting the camera up within OBS, and after about 30 minutes of adding it to scenes and resizing the camera in some scenes and creating some groups; the camera overheated and
turned off. My A6600 was on prior to me trying to setup the A6700, and it didn't overheat, and I probably had it on for an hour or so after setting up OBS and the RØDECaster Pro II. I did have the A6700 set to
4K and 120fps; I don't believe the A6600 even supports that high of setting, so it was probably my fault. I have, however, ordered a fan that will attach to the camera to keep it cooler, hopefully it'll
help the camera last longer than 30 minutes with high settings.
I also got a couple of Scuf controllers and a couple of Battle Beaver controllers.
June 2023:
I pre-ordered the ASUS ROG Ally at the end of May and received it this month. I spent some time customizing it, as it runs Windows 11, and then installed some games from Steam. I played the Resident Evil 4 Remake on it and really enjoyed the game and the Ally handled it really well. Once in a while it felt like the game was stalling/freezing up but after a couple of seconds it would "catch up" and run smoothly again. I'd say that only happened about 5 or 6 times, after spending 30 or 40 hours in the game. The game looks amazing on the Ally. I also played The Last of Us Part I, Minecraft, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Cowabunga Bundle. All of which have played amazingly on the Ally. I bought 3 or 4 different chargers for the Ally to keep around the house, because the battery seems to only last a little over an hour while playing Resident Evil 4. So, that's my only complaint, the battery life.
May 2023:
Back in April, I pre-ordered the Sony Alpha ZV-E1 and it was delivered on May 5th. I filmed an unboxing video that I never released and a couple of days later, I used the camera to film a lizard chasing another lizard in my backyard. I think I was filming for about 3 minutes then the camera froze up, so I pulled the battery and put it back in and it rebooted. I filmed again for about a minute and the camera just shut off. Unfortunately, I ended up returning the camera, because the plan for that one was going to be a lot of outdoor, in-real-life filming, and it could not stand up to the East Coast of North Carolina Spring temperatures. I was thinking of using it as an indoors camera, but I don't know if it would have worked well for longer shoots anyway. I've been contemplating getting one of the Cineme line cameras from Sony, the FX3 or the cheaper FX30, I just haven't pulled the trigger yet.
